surprises
Roger suprised me yesterday. He doesn’t immediately strike you as a creative, imaginative, funny guy. But he is. I guess sometimes my stereotypes cloud my vision to see who people really are or, sadly for me and them, who they could be.
This past year has brought many many surprises and I don’t know where to start in processing, recounting or remembering them all. I am in the middle of one of them as I type. It is a big (or mostly long) turquoise house in the middle of Austin, Tx. A little over a month ago today I learned of this house, packed my stuff and moved in. For the past months decisions have seem to come and be made that way-overnight.
The idea behind the house is community: intentional relationships that could act as a family to many people in different stages of life. The house is an experiment of sorts till next July.
so on we go…
“all the lonely people, where do they all come from…where do they all belong?”

I know what you mean about stereotypes. I think the reason I make them is because somehow I think they will keep me from being dissapointed. But the real dissapointment comes with keeping my heart closed off to possibilities.
